Re: [EXS] fw drives all going bad...

If you're using the streaming feature they're definitely working a bit harder than if you used them occasionally to retrieve a spreadsheet. Cooling is absolutely essential. I burned out three Seagate Cheetahs because I kept them in the case that the vender sold them to me in. After consulting with Segate, I got a metal box (plastic retains heat) with a fan in the front and back and have had no problems since. My current FW drive is a LaCie 200. It's in a heat dispersing metal box and no problems so far. Think of the drive as a Corvette engine. If you're driving around a race track all the time and it's 90 degrees outside, you better have a serious radiator full of water or your engine is going to sease up. JR

Subject: [EXS] fw drives all going bad...
This is really weird, but I've had 3 120-gb firewire drives go bad within a
couple of months. It coincides with about the time I started relying
heavily on EXS24 for my music. I've been switching back and forth between
os X and 9.2 on a dual-boot 450 MP mac. 90% of what I do on this machine
has to do with running Logic Audio 6 with EXS24. Could there be any
correlation between running Logic/EXS24 and the FW drives going south?
