Eli,

Thanks for the input. It seems that I may be in luck. Liquid Grooves comes with these pre-
sequenced midi files (Groove Control), as well as the Audio samples (Akai, and others). And
the kicker is the sequenced midi files comes in Logic and Cubase format. So, perhaps the
player may suit me fine. Am I looking in the wrong places, but how come I can't find any
detail on pricing and availability?

Thanks again!

Hi Adam,

The answer depends on what format your Liquid Groooves CD is in.
With the EXSP, you can't edit the instrument sample mappings at all.
It is really just a sample player. If your CD Rom is in Samplecell
or Akai format, your in luck. EXSP can import them with all the
loops mapped out across the keyboard for easy triggering. If you
only have an audio CD, or another format that isn't directly
supported by the EXSP import functionality, you'r out of luck. You
can't manually create/map custom instruments.

In the EXS 24 you can though.

Until last week it wasn't available in any OS X supported format.
They just released it however in Audio Unit format last week though.
So hopefully it should be available from your local
dealer/distributor in short order. Now that Emagic are owned by
Apple, hopefully their 30 day commitment to turn around time from
announcements to availablitiy will trickle down to Emagic products
as well.

As far as price: Unless the price structure changes with this new AU
version, the EXSP has traditionally been about 40 - 50% of the price
of the EXS 24.

in the UK I've been quoted £99 as an upgrade from EXSP24 to EXS24 from the
UK distributor

G5's are out!

2003-06-23 by Colin Shapiro

All the rumours and leaks were true!!

For EXS24 users, this will be double heaven:
8Gb of RAM - imagine how many VSL instruments you can load at once.

The competition just got nuked...

Go see: http://www.apple.com/powermac/

I heard a rumour somewhere of over 1300+ EXS Stereo Voices on one machine.

One thing .. be careful here. Apple machines, especially 1st version
one's are prone to misc problems. Look at the past for verification.
January Macworld show will release a better, all dual lineup, and most
of the problems we will see in the V1 G5's will be fixed.

As for the noise issue with 9 fans, I would have to hear on of these
running in a hot studio for a while with full CPU loads going to see
just how quiet it really is.. the MDD Mac I have is a beast when it
comes to noise. And when I bought it, I told the guy at the store I
needed a quiet computer for music, I was assured that the computer was
fine.

Just be careful not to buy into the hype, wait until you can see for
yourself..

Of course you're right. I'd want to wait anyway as I still need OS9
for some time. (Damn!!!)

I'm sure Apple realised their error. These G5's claim to be 2-3 times
quieter than the G4's. Mine sits in an IsoBox anyway - even with the
fan upgrade, it's still a noisy pig.

But to get back to the G5's.....
I have no doubt that Emagic will be the first music app to take full
advantage so we'll certainly benefit in that respect.
I heard Gerhard Lengeling was featured in the keynote address - it's
still not up on the Apple site yet.

Regards - Colin
