[EXS][VSL] total annoyance

[EXS][VSL] total annoyance

2003-08-02 by jrslam1

Has anyone received the VSL Performance Set for EXS yet? I got
it yesterday and am thoroughly annoyed. The file transfer and
unstuff from DVD took somewhere between six and eight hours -
no problem, that can go one disk at a time unattended, but
here's the crunch. When I went to Project Manager to resolve the
somewhere around 90,000 sample file references, it was,
according to VSL an "overnight process" that needen't be
attended. WRONG. Every EXS program I tried (about six test
progs.) had at least one duplicate sample from the Orchestral
Cube, and of course, the program manager asks you which
sample you would like to use. You have to choose, hence, no
unattended overnight sample resolve. With the number of
samples and resolutions, this looks like about a twelve hour
carefully attended process.

Good luck to all who have bought this (not too carefully thought
out for EXS) Performance Set. If anybody has a workaround,
please post it. Oh yes, and Emagic has released Logic 6.1.1
with the VSL implementation, but no Performance Tool is on the
VSL site though they said on the box it would be. It's still "In
Developement." This is after we paid in full for it three months
ago. Grrrrrrrrrr. I'll save the bitch about several programs in
the
Orchestral Cube with the wrong release samples for later.

Great, great library, but it needs some serious attention to a
pretty major oversight. at least on my setup!

James,
I have VSL but not the performance set. If you wait for the first
time Logic displays the duplicate reference and select "choose
best match" then it won't ask you that anymore and you can leave
it unattended. Hope that helps,
Marc

Someone has answered this already. The "best match scenario" works just fine.

It seems that Emagic surprised VSL be releasing 6.1.1 so soon. If
you're not already a member, join the VSL forum at their website for
the latest news and some seriously impressive support from the VSL
team.

Thanks for the tip. That could be a huge timesaver. However.....are we
sure that "choose the best match" will choose a performance from the
Performance Set folder and not a stationary note from the Orchestra Cube
folder? If it chooses "unwisely" it could be a friggin nightmare to try and
find and correct the bad choice. Are we certain here?

Thanks,
James

If I understand correctly, the files have unique names. Apparently
there are duplicates between the 2 sets, but these files would be
identical. Anyway, Logic's PM tends to look for an entire PATH, not
just a filename.

I'm still waiting for my Perf Set so I can't comment first hand unfortunately.

OK. Well, hell, I'll give it a try tonight while I sleep. Fact is, if the
identical filenames indicate identical files, who cares where the EXS gets
them? I won't know if it worked until VSL posts the actual performance and
repetition tools to test the theory, but at this point, it sounds like a go.
Thanks for the help!

How about temporarily putting the Cube folder to trash and launching
every instrument one by one? Will this work?

Best,

Tried it. The PM finds them in the trash too. Hitting the "use best choice" button did the trick.
