Automation celebration

Well, after internalizing all of the advice I've been getting over the past few days, and after much meditation on the wonderful buddha-nature of the Environment, I can now use channel splitters, bus automation objects, and what have you to record different streams of automation data. Much thanks to all for the great advice! Only one thing is pissing me off, though... If I record-enable both my channel splitter track (going to audio instrument 1) and my bus automation object, I can't record movements on to both simultaneously and separately. At least from what I can tell. Because I still need to highlight the Audio Instrument track in the arrange window in order to get it to play at all, and when I do this, it automatically records all MIDI data _to_ that audio instrument track. Phooey! Unless somebody has advice on this exact issue, I suppose I will have to record automation in multiple pass-throughs, and if I want to record an all-out jam, well, I'll have to stick to my little trick of routing the audio from the audio instrument out of outputs 1 and 2, and have an audio track bring it back in so I can record an .aiff in realtime. By the way, this method of recording virtual instrument jams to audio is very slick, I'm surprised it's not even suggested in the manual as a footnote or anything. -Nick Gold, funkelectric.com
