RE: [gsp-2101] freeze up/crash problem

2007-04-17 by Patrick Jarvis

Thanks for your advise.

I tried another reset from a help topic in MidiWIzard that brought factory programs back....1) turn off unit 2) hold down 1 button while powering on 3) wait till * in left corner appears then release 1 button 4) press program up key to start reset 5) follow up with sytem restore using midiwizard

I didn't do the system restore yet cause I'm gonna get a fresh battery first. This restore brought only factory programs back but my user programs that were giving me trouble are still the same.

Could be corrupted data but Im surprised a reset wouldnt fix that. Had a patch once where if I scrolled past it it would corrupt the machine, so bad data will cause the symptoms you describe. I believe there is a HARD reset but I dont have the exact procedure for that handy. Try a fresh battery (and leave it out for a few minutes).

Subject: [gsp-2101] freeze up/crash problem
Just curious if anybody has had a similar experience/info as to what
caused my GSP2101 to freeze up and crash...

I bought a used GSP2101 and found some of the programs were quiter
than others, I thought a system reset would help but it didn't so i
only assumed those programs were suppose to sound like that? So I went
ahead and transfered some sysex programs I downloaded from the
internet and used widiwizard to transfer them to my GSP2101. Some
worked but I came across other programs that would make my GSP freeze
up/crash. The display would either read "unknown algorithm" or
"waiting for user algorithm" or "midi message too long press any
button" or worse, would read in alien text or the leds disappear! So
after try'n to reboot, restore unsuccessfully too many times and
locking up each time I dialed the program number I copied to, I got
frustrated and made one last attempt by popping the lid and taking the
internal battery out hoping that would clear the ram and hard-reset
the whole system. Well, to my surprise it worked and the programs that
I couldn't hear in the beginning came to life! I'm still not sure if
the problem was a bad sysex file or my GSP2101, I haven't tried
transferring new programs from midiwizard yet. Any
comments/suggestion s would be appreciated -Patrick

Update...since restoring last night, now my 2101 has reverted back to
the way it was before. After trying to restore /replace the battery a
few times it won't function anymore and the display reads after
booting up "unused cmd for type 1 param" and after..."unknown analog
param". I'm thinking maybe The internal battery is dying and needs
replacing which may be the cause for the restore attempts to not hold
in ram? Does anybody now whats going on??
