It's pretty easy.
Login to yahoogroups.
Click on the list name in your groups.
Click "Management" at the bottom of the list on the left.
Click "Membership" on the right hand side.
Click "Edit" next to the "membership type and welcome message"
Select "restricted" membership.
If you wish to have an additional message go out with each autoreply to people trying to join, then use the "Additional Messages" options. You'll need to upload that message you want to go out into the Files section for the group. Once that's done, you can add that outgoing message for the "Pending Membership" portion of the group.
Here's the details on that:
Click on Files on the left-hand side of your Group's web page. Then click either Add File or Create Text File, depending on whether you have the file already saved on your own computer or you want to create it on-the-spot. In either case, under Auto-Send To Members, you can check the box for Upon Joining Group. Make sure to follow the rest of the directions on that page, and click on Upload File or Create File in the lower-right-hand corner when you're done.
Hope that helps,
Jeff

Unfortunately, Yahoo is not yet allowing me to "audition" new members
before they can post messages. So I apologize for the crap that just
got through the gate.
As soon as Yahoo let's me know how to be a gatekeeper, I'll be able to
cross-check each new member.
