RE: [gsp-2101] Stability issues

I suggest replacing the battery and performing a hard reset if you have not done so already. I had a TSR24-S (2101 minus the preamp) that was doing what you describe and this cured it.

Also if you have corrupted settings/sysx dump and you backup and reload this corrupted memory the problem may return. I've experienced this with the 2101. Might be best to just do a hard reset and start from scratch or re-enter memory manually.

Also I have found 99% of the time when something electronic malfunctions, especially when it's been tinkered with, bumped or jostled as your unit appears to have been, it's a good idea to gently-lightly press on to reseat all ribbon cables, chips and possibly check for cracked solder connections. I've revived a lot of equipment by reseating connections. One time a mixer would only output sound from one channel and I reseated all the ribbon cables and made it work again. Just this Saturday we had a synthesizer that wouldn't emit any sound just before the gig and we took the cover off and found an expansion chip had worked its way loose. Clicked it back in and voila, the show was on again.

If none of that works its time to get some specs and schematics and a multimeter and start testing or send the unit to digitech for repair.

Also, ask Dieter, he is the 2101 guru.

Good luck.

Subject: [gsp-2101] Stability issues

Hello group,
this is my first post since I joined the community. First of all, I
must excuse about my English because is not my mother language (I'm
from Spain).

I purchased a second hand GSP-2101 some months ago from guy in a local
guitar gear forum. I received the unit without the top cover, with no
tubes and the tube retainers where missing. Except that, the unit is
functional, but it "locks" randomly when changing presets using the
wheel, entering / exiting the tuner, sending midi controls or storing
changes to memory. These locks only affect to the control chip, the
unit doesn't react at any button (except power, of course) but the
preamp and the algorithm keep working. Sometimes, after the hang up
the unit will not power up correctly, showing strange characters in
the screen after boot up, but turning off and waiting some minutes
makes rid of this problem.

Any clue of what makes this strange behaviour?

Regards,
Nestor.
