The fact that your FC works with your old GSP means that neither your FC nor your MIDI connecting cable is at fault.  But it could be that the FC connector on the back of your new GSP is faulty.  If the contacts inside the connector (which looks like a female MIDI connector) are making intermittent contact with the pins on your MIDI cable, this could explain the spurious errors on your new GSP.  Did you try wiggling the MIDI cable close to your new GSP?  Does it make any difference?

That's my only suggestion, I'm afraid.  Perhaps Dieter Waechter has some ideas.  He's the GSP hardware guru who lives in Germany.  I've copied him on this message in the hope that he has some constructive input.

  hey group,

  long story short:
   my control 1 occasionally freezes and keeps displaying the the "digitech fc ver 1.03".

  short story long: 
  been playing my GSP2101 (3.00.00.a, second processor board) +FC for 20 years.
  last week the analog EQ stopped working (everything else works fine).
  bought a used 2101LE in very good condition (also 3.00.00a) which works flawlessly...

  ...until i connect the control1. 
  everything´s ok for a couple of minutes, but then the trouble starts:
  - first the expression pedal´s values aren´t transmitted correctly anymore, the display in the 2101 display are quickly jumping between different parameter values; and
  - the expression pedal won´t (re-)calibrate.
  after about half an hour:
  - the GSP2101 restarts and the FC display reads "digitech fc ver 1.03"
  - stepping on a switch sometimes revives it, but immediately after that the same happens.
  - switching the GSP off and on again helps for a very short time, but then the same thing happens.

  the FC still works with the old GSP without problems. 

  any ideas are highly appreciated!
