ryan,
i´m not familiar with cakewalk. i mostly use
cubase.
and i don´t have win2000 either (but 98se).
if your soundboard and midi are onboard they must be enabled
in the bios settings.
then go to start->settings->system
settings->multimedia (my ´puter is in german, so the names may differ
slightly) and look for a menu midi. is it enabled? in
start->settings->system settings->system->audio,vdeo, gamecontroller
look if the drivers are installed.
what soundboard do you have?
what really makes me wonder: you say the plugs are white and
red. i´ve never seen white and read midi-connectors before. are you
really sure, they are not audio connectors? (sorry if sounding smart assed
- but sometimes....).
hope this helps a bit for the first, let us know
klaus

have it connected to my docking station game port. do i need to
somehow "enable" my gameport via a driver or something? is there a
midi driver for the gameport, so to speak? do i need to somehow
configure my settings to recognize my gameport as a midi device? im
going to try your suggestion immediately. thanks a million for the
speedy reply. im glad this group is not a ghost town, 'cause out of
all my recording software, cakewalk pro 9.03 is my fav. great
resource and people here. ill be around much more ofter now.

and "out" written on them (which is not perfectly unambigious: in to
the computer or in to the connected device??) try to exchange the
connections.
