Before I start off, please remember to be careful when working on tube-based equipment. The voltage levels are much higher, and if not careful, they can kill. It is only through the wonderful grace of God that I'm still here today, so if your are not completely sure about things, please find a good amp tech in your area. I don't know if this will help or means anything, but when my amp tech cleaned up mine and changed the battery, he found that some of the socketed components had worked themselves a little loose. By pressing down on them, he got them back into place. You could even hear some of them popping back into place. He said that this is common for units like this, and that you just need to make sure that they are seated well.
