I don't see why it would force you to do 3. You should be able to do 2 harmonies just fine. However, I have a hard time apprceciating a band with only one guitarist, bassist and drummer. For me, there has to be either another guitarist or a keyboard player. To me, at least, there's nothing worse than hearing nice full chords and then everytime you have to play some single notes, or harmonies with a harmonizer, there's that emptiness left. A drummer and bass cannot fill the hole of what was just there and now isn't.

I agree that the Hatchet and Boston stuff are other good examples of 
harmonized playing.  I'm sure there're are tons of examples ;) of 
what would be nice to achieve from a one guitar band ...  

I have no idea about the DHP series \ufffd I've read they do a good job 
though can sound processed, which might be acceptable.    I wonder 
if they allow you to create two parts or if the 33 requires all 3 to 
be used for example?

harmonies form a guitar player? Sure, there way Queen who 
multitracked. There were bands like Molly Hatchet but they had three 
guitarists and a fourth guy on bass. They didn't need harmonizers. 
If you want the best harmony guitars in the world, by the way, buy 
the first and second albums by the band Boston. It wasn't 
harmonizers but oh how sweet. The second album, called Don't Look 
Back, is the best example. Good luck.
