It's taken a bit of work, but I've gotten, at least what I consider to be a good sound out of the Dual Chorus, and the Stereo Chorus. I've also had a bit of good luck using 2 mono Detuners for that Van Halen type sound. One is set a bit flat, and the other is set a bit sharp. But the two main patches I use both have chorus on them. So: 1 - If a module is not very good, sound won't be good no matter how many bits you have in the A/D or D/A converter (not talking about extremes like 8 bits of course, talking about 18 to 20 or 20 to 24). 2 - If a module takes to much time to process your signal you tend to think it's not so good because your hands and ears are expecting something they find normal (action/reaction). 3 - If in a module the sound if mixed with it self and or modulated, it's normal that there will be some wave cancellation effects and frequency boosts. Conclusion: My message about trying to get help to improve the quality of the sound by changing the converters is unnecessary. I was trying to fix something that could never be fixed. It's true that it might improve sound a bit, but not so much that I could say it makes sense to do so. When using modules such as Detuners and Pitch Shifters sound tends to be not so good and there's no ADA converter in the world that could improve this. If I want the high quality version of this effects I have to buy a faster and more powerful unit like the TCElectronic (the 2120 has some high quality ones too, unfortunately not as good). I love the 2101, it's the best unit I have ever had not because it sounds ultra cool, but because I can do everything with it. Along the years I have learn to love this machine and live with its flaws and walk around them. To end here's a list of the effects modules not so good that can damage your sound if used in line (unfortunately some of them sound better like this and not in parallel): - 4 Phase Chorus - Stereo Dual Chorus - Pitch Shifter - Dual Pitch Shifter - Stereo Pitch Shifter - Smooth Pitch Shifter - Mono Detuner - Dual Detuner - Stereo Detuner - Harmony - Stereo Dual Detuner - 4-Voice Detuner - Arpeggiator - Stereo Arpeggiator - Whammy - Programmable Whammy - Smooth Whammy Hoppe I could help any one that felt like the 2101 was not up to the job any more. Please say what you think about the modules I chose, please tell what are the one you think don't belong in the list and the one that should be. 2101 RULEZZZZZZ, Pedro Ferreira -----Mensagem original----- De: gusfmm [mailto:gusfmm@...] Enviada: quarta-feira, 15 de Dezembro de 2004 18:35 Para: gsp-2101@yahoogroups.com Assunto: [gsp-2101] Re: Converters Pedro, Forgot to suggest something to you. Pick any patch you don't use on the 2101. Edit the algo and get rid of everything in it. Save the algo. Go back to the program and turn everything OFF, turn volume to 0dB and EQ totally flat. Connect your guitar to the 2101. Connect the 2101 FX loop send to your new pre-amp input. Connect the output of your new pre-amp to the 2101 FX loop return. Go to the last module/step of your program on the 2101, which ought to be the global wet-dry mixer. Crank it all the way to WET 100% (although if you've done everything I've said this shouldn't matter at all). Play. If you feel there is a noticeable difference, please write back telling us, and you might need to buy some other mFX. If not, then you will contribute supporting our findings and the 2101 should be just right for you. Seriously, in doing all this, I also came to realize that there are several aspects involved in the algorithm programming that can affect your sound (positively or not, it's up to you to judge it) that you have to be careful and keep this in mind in order to really obtain the most from the 2101. Please, let us know.
