Re: [gsp-2101] Midi In Problems

Hi Chris:
When "chaining" several MIDI devices together, make sure you use MIDI Thru on each device and not MIDI Out. The only exception to this rule is your pedal (or other MIDI controller), which needs to be at the start of your MIDI chain, of course. You should use MIDI Out on the controlling device.
If you use MIDI Out on a device, the MIDI signals transmitted by that device are susceptible to MIDI mapping by that device. MIDI mapping, for example, enables a device to receive a MIDI message on channel 1 and transmit it via MIDI Out on channel 2. Whereas MIDI Thru is supposed to duplicate exactly the messages arriving at MIDI In.
With this configuration, you should make sure that all devices in the chain are set to receive MIDI messages on the same channel.
Some controllers are capable of sending multiple MIDI messages, each on a separate MIDI channel, each time you step on a pedal or push a button. ; These introduce another level of complexity while allowing each device in the chain to respond to a different MIDI channel. However, if some device in the chain isn't responding, as in your case, it's best to stick to the single MIDI channel to begin with and shake down the problem before complicating the picture.
Let us know if this helps or not.
Best Regards,
Graham Pearson

Subject: [gsp-2101] Midi In Problems

Hi,

maybe someone can help me out with this: I´m controlling up to eight
MIDI-devices with my footcontroller (similar to GCX Ground Control
Pro).

I chose MIDI-channel 7 on the GSP2101 but the GSP is not responding.
I tried different MIDI-channels (1,2,3,..., ALL) without any luck.

Does anyone know what I´m doing wrong?!?!

I hope that the MIDI IN-jack´s not broken!

Thanks a lot!

Chris
