RE: MIDIWizard Software

RE: MIDIWizard Software

2006-02-27 by Graham Pearson

A little background: MIDIWizard is a Windows-based software product that interfaces with various signal processors, including the GSP-2101. ; It runs on any version of WIndows 98 or later and works with any 2101 EPROM version 2.00 or later. Some features will only work with the latest EPROM version, which is 3.00.
The latest version of MIDIWizard is 1.45. MIDIWizard is available for free to any member of this forum. If you have an older version of MIDIWIzard and wish to receive the latest version, just let me know. It's useful to know the version of Windows you are using, the EPROM version installed in your 2101, and the kind of interface you have between your PC and your 2101 (gameport, MidiSport 2x2, or whatever) so that, if you need support, we can help you more effectively.
We also have a long explanation of why we can't add a feature to the 2101 interface for designing new algorithms or editing existing algorithms. Let us know if you want a copy of this explanation.
The 2101 interface can do just about everything else you could want to do to your 2101 ... system backups and restores, program backups and restores, real-time program editing, MIDI map editing, remote control, global EQ management, factory and user program reporting, etc.
Currently, MIDIWizard is being used by about 190 GSP-2101 owners. I guess that's 189 since we lost Ed Sims to the Line6 POD community.

Hello everybody!
I wonder which version of MidiWizard is the latest? Is it possible to make and arrange algorytms with Midiwizard?

Ouch! That really hurts. I never said that I'll never own another one. I just need to get up and running so that I can gig and open my studio ASAP. Do you realize how long it takes to configure the 2101?

Graham,
I would like to aquire this software for my 2101 too. I have Operating System Windows XP PRO with a yamaha USB Midi interface. I also have a SB Audigy Midi interface. My EPROM is Version 3.00. I would also like a copy of "We also have a long explanation of why we can't add a feature to the 2101 interface for designing new algorithms or editing existing algorithms".

Hello All,
You guys must realize that I am out of, what is left, of New Orleans. Losing my 2101, to me, was a tradegy that I am still trying to deal with; it took me months to tweak that box with an editor. However, as soon as I take care of more important things, like rebuilding my home, I plan on hitting ebay again and aquire another. Believe me, the POD is a great box, but it isn't a 2101.

Hello!

- Can You please send me the latest version of Midi Wizard (WinXP sp2, SB live, Eprom version 3.00a, PPC 210 installed)?
- A copy of a long explanation of why you can't add a feature to the 2101 interface for designing new algorithms or editing existing algorithms, would be real nice to have too.

- I also wonder what happened to your GSP 2101 forum (sorry I forgot the exact name)?

Oops! Sorry about the last post. It should have gone directly to Marko, of course.
I might as well take this opportunity to let you all know that we have about 213 copies of MIDIWizard out there with the GSP-2101 interface. What puzzles me is this. We get requests for copies of MIDIWizard, we send the copies out, and then we get absolutely NO feedback on whether on not it is useful, comments on new features, bugs, etc.
We're NOT looking for pats on the back. We're looking for constructive criticism that would help make our software better. Is anyone out there using MIDIWizard?
Currently, MIDIWizard has interfaces for the following devices:
DigiTech GSP-2101
DigiTech Studio Vocalist/Vocalist Workstation
Tech21 SansAmp PSA-1
ADA MP-1
Lexicon MPX1
In the works:
Roland GP-100
DigiTech 2112/2120
Any other suggestions?

Dan:
MIDIWizard's WWW Resources feature has links to all of the GSP-2101 sites we are aware of. The Program Options / From Internet feature has links to all of the GSP-2101 sites that have downloadable program SysEx files. We attempt to keep these lists of sites current. If any of you know of additional sites, please let us know and we'll include them in the next release of MIDIWizard.

So Graham, from what I understand, you are looking for Feedback on
your MIDIWizard Software product, I suppose to make it a better
product. Yet, I have contacted you a few times now so that I can get/
try your software and then offer that very feedback, but you have not
replied to one of my emails. What exactly do I have to do to make this
happen? Or is it no longer available or being maintained???

I recently picked up my first GSP 2101 (after owning a 2112) and
although not as intimidating to program/configure as a I had heard
these untis were, I would still like to use any decent software tools
that might be available to aid in configuration/backup/etc. I have a
GSP 2101 Artist Pro with single s-diskii, running version 3.00.00.a
software.

There's an older editor by Martin Ecker called GSPEdit, anyone used
it? Any good? How's it compare to MIDIWizard?
Thanks much, Rick

Thanks Graham!
Jason helped me out. Yes, the guy who runs bhon.net has some pretty
aggressive SPAM Filters. Loking forward to trying out your software,
just have to find a cable to hook it up to my PC gameport. Once I've
had time to test it, I'll definately keep up my end of the bargain.
Here's to further devepment, looks promising.
Cheers, Rick

P.S. Maybe you should have a web site to promote the MIDIWizard? I
looked all over the Internet looking for information about your
software and found none. Just a simple page with a list of
capabilites, features, screenshots would do wonders to get more users
interested, if indeed that is your goal. I can help you with this.

2006-04-25 by strategy400

Hey Graham,

Frankly I don't use the software much because I use my 2101's for live
performance a lot and so I've gotten really good at just doing everything
via the front panels. I just don't have them connected to my computer much.
I did just buy a laptop usb midi interface that I'm using to connect to my
various midi gear to do backups/emergency restores so I may find more use
for it soon. I greatly appreciate your efforts though please keep it up.

Is there a website we can go to and do you have something setup for
donations? I'd hate for you guys to lose interest.

Mark:
MIDIWizard is mostly used for system-wide and individual program backups. Not very glamorous but extremely important if you value your custom sounds. Some of MIDIWizard's other features are useful even if you don't have your 2101 connected to your computer. For example, a couple of features provide easy links to all the significant web sites devoted to the 2101 and various downloadable program libraries.
White Horse Software does not yet have a web site devoted to MIDIWizard. One of these days, we'll have the time to set one up. Thanks for offering to donate funds "to keep up our interest". Eventually, we might charge a nominal fee, say $25, for each copy of MIDIWizard. For now, we distribute it for free because we want to keep the 2101 as being one of the most viable and powerful signal processors around, even after 20 years or so.
Although the 2101 interface attracts the most interest, we have developed several other interfaces for MIDIWIzard ... ADA MP-1, Tech21 SansAmp PSA-1, Lexicon MPX1, DigiTech Studio Vocalist and Vocalist Workstation. In the works are interfaces for the Roland GP-100 and possibly the DigiTech 2112/2120. We know that RPEdit is well established for the 2112/2120, but our intention is to make patches interchangeable between the 2101 and the 2112/2120.
Thanks for your feedback,
Graham Pearson

RE: MIDIWizard Software

2007-05-27 by Graham Pearson

Clayton:
Currently, MIDIWizard interfaces with the following devices:
DigiTech GSP-2101
DigiTech Studio Vocalist
ADA MP-1
Tech21 SansAmp PSA-1
Lexicon MPX-1
Hammond XK-3
Our software is distributed as an executable file (EXE), several general-purpose dynamic link libraries (DLLs), and one or more device-specific DLLs. For each of the above devices, you need the corresponding device-specific DLL file. The EXE and the other general purpose DLLs are the same, no matter how many device-specific DLLs you install. We carefully designed the EXE and all DLLs to operate under any version of Windows 98 or later, so you don't need to update your MIDIWizard software if you install a new version of Windows.
We've been distributing free copies of MIDIWizard for about 4 years now. As of today (May 27, 2007) there are 244 registered copies of the GSP-2101 interface out there. With the release of version 1.51, we've decided to ask for a contribution of $33 for each of the device interfaces. Of course, if you are interested in several device interfaces, we can cut you a deal. This contribution entitles you to receive future updates for free.
The reason for asking for a contribution is that we intend to establish a web site for product support and updates. So far, only four people have sent us a donation, so we're not exactly getting rich. Perhaps some of you out there are copying our software, and that's just fine. But if you find MIDIWizard useful, as I know many of you do from the number of support questions I answer, I hope you'd feel like sending us a dollar or two just so we can offset the cost of developing the web site.
To everyone, thanks for reading this long post.
Graham

Subject: [gsp-2101] Midiwizard help!!!

I read somewhere that the Midiwizard program can be used with the ADA
MP-1 and also the Lexicon MPX-1. Does anyone out there know how to
make it work with the MP-1? I would love to be able to use this with
my MP-1's. If it works even half as good with an MP-1 as it does with
the GSP2101, I will be in total MIDI heaven. If you're reading this
Graham, please let me know what's up. Thanks.

Graham,

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I am one of the many Midiwizard users who is using an un-registered version (copy) of your program. Props to you by the way-killer program. I am definitely interested in getting the ability to use midiwizard with my MP-1's (I own 4 different ones-so it would be very useful), as well as my GSP2101. You mentioned cutting a deal for multiple units. How much for the ability to control MP-1's and the 2101? I am also wondering if that is two seperate programs, or are all the devices controlled by the single Midiwizard program? If you would like to talk about this away from the forums, please let me know, and I will give you my personal email address.
Thanks,
Clayton
