2101 Freakin out

2101 Freakin out

2002-09-29 by Sean Roberts

Guys my 2101 has been crashing a lot more lately.
You know, the scrambled text, leaving it totally inoperable.
Sometimes I can get it back but sometimes I need to give it a hard reset.
It could possibly be heat related, last night it went nuts on the last song of the set (thank God)
After having it cool down on break it seemed fine. I had to reset the midi though.
Could this be a battery issue? I've never changed the battery & have had the unit for Hmm
well since they first came out. (6-8yrs?)
It's been well used, average 8-12 hours/week since I bought it.
I'm just not sure it's a battery thing?
These crashes have been getting progressively worse over the last 1-2 years.
Before that it was solid as a rock & it's been in the same rack config the whole time.
If it's heat related I'm just wondering why there was never a problem before?
The only time it would crash before was from bad electric in the venues.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Sean Roberts

I get the same problem. It's a random thing, kind of hard to track down.
I know there is one certain program of mine that causes a crash
reliably, where I have the flange depth set to zero for a strange tunnel
effect. I only have to scroll past it with the wheel to make it crash.
Sometimes when I power up the leds are flickering, sometimes not. Prolly
need to send it in for a tune up.

I don't know It probably is heat realted. One time
mine F'd up it was cause of the heat I put a fan in
the rack and everything was fine. AFter that I used
it on average 20 hours a week and never had a problem.

Hi!
1. check the voltages of the power-supply!
2. Check the hum- voltages of the voltages!!
3. check the D-RAMS!

Re: [gsp-2101] 2101 Freakin out

2002-10-01 by Sean Roberts

OK I'm thinking it's definitely a heat thing.
Was just using it in my studio & after a couple of hours it started acting up again.
Now usually in a gig situation I'm trying to get it back right away for obvious reasons.
This time I was able to just turn it off & leave it. Sure enough after it cooled down it was fine.
Now what I can't understand is why would it be heating up more now?
I've used it hours on end without this problem for years before.
Dieter by checking your below suggestions, would any of these cause
overheating & would the voltages have changed over the years from just getting old?
Also, do I just take it in to my local music shop techy for these tests or do I need to send it to Digitech?
Thanks
Sean

Re: [gsp-2101] 2101 Freakin out

2002-10-03 by Sean Roberts

My tech guy said he would have to send it to Digitech to check that stuff! :(
SO
I did some more tests...
I gave it a hard reset & didn't load any of my patches into it. (I use Patch Dumper)
Also I didn't connect my control one.
Now before I reset, it went all wonky on me & didn't recover even after it cooled down.
After resetting, (using the hold #1 method) I left it on to try & recreate the abnormalities. (heating it up)
I had it on for about 6 hours straight with NO PROBLEMS.
I proceeded to load up a whack of my patches thinking this may cause the problems.
Maybe a corrupt file or something.
Another 6 hours & it's AOK!!
No problems, solid as a rock!!
This can't be a heat thing because it's been on for about over 12 hours straight!!
Tomorrow I'm going to plug in the C1 & see if I can get it to go crazy again.
This has me baffled big time!

Yes.
If the capacitors ´become dry over the years, the capacitance depends to the temperature!!!
So check the hum-voltages!!!
