as I know, pat uses only the unit to split the sound and warm it up.
the typical pm-tone comes from a lexicon delay 93 (known as prime
time) - this is a digital delay with a vco filter to get this
sweeping sound. i looked for this tone really a long time too until
i saw the lexicon unit in his rack.
i play both with an ibanez pm-100 and get this tone. you should use
a solid state amp. all you finally need is a decent good reverb
(maybe from lexicon too).
