I'm not sure. I just know from experience with a few other synths that blank video is often caused by a failed internal battery. I also just read that the ribbon cable pins connected to the lcd can crack or break off over time causing some dicey electronics problems with the display.

I'll open it up and check. Is pulling the battery the only way to reset the K5?
