Re: [k5synth] Display swap with T6963C ?

I have.

The main issue with an LCD is setting its viewing angle. If you look at a properly-set-up LCD dead-on, the letters will be black and the background will be white. But if you look at it from a (say) 45 degrees angle from above, the letters will be washed-out white; and from a 45 degree angle from below, the background will be washed-out black -- your situation.

The viewing angle is normally set via a voltage value, likely between 0 and 5V. The K5M has a "contrast" knob on the front which is attached to a potentiometer which lets you change this voltage value; but it may not be enough. You may have to set up a little voltage divider -- basically soldering in two resistors of the right resistance -- to adjust the contrast so that the middle position of the contrast knob corresponds with dead-on properly viewed letters.

Building a voltage divider requires a bit of electronical engineering knowhow; I lucked out in getting a colleague of mine to run the math for me to figure out the right values (I had bought an LCD from Mo Morgan (lightsforsynths@...) but it wasn't adjusted right as well). Afterwards my LCD looked great.
