As my backlight is dead, I tried to avoid disassembling the LCD by buying a replacement LCD.
I read somewhere, that the type should be compatible with T6963C.
So I bought this one:
I connected everything except the 100V. The display became black, without any letters visible.
Did anyone replace the complete LCD yet ?

I have. The main issue with an LCD is setting its viewing angle. If you look at a properly-set-up LCD dead-on, the letters will be black and the background will be white. But if you look at it from a (say) 45 degrees angle from above, the letters will be washed-out white; and from a 45 degree angle from below, the background will be washed-out black -- your situation. The viewing angle is normally set via a voltage value, likely between 0 and 5V. The K5M has a "contrast" knob on the front which is attached to a potentiometer which lets you change this voltage value; but it may not be enough. You may have to set up a little voltage divider -- basically soldering in two resistors of the right resistance -- to adjust the contrast so that the middle position of the contrast knob corresponds with dead-on properly viewed letters. Building a voltage divider requires a bit of electronical engineering knowhow; I lucked out in getting a colleague of mine to run the math for me to figure out the right values (I had bought an LCD from Mo Morgan (lightsforsynths@...) but it wasn't adjusted right as well). Afterwards my LCD looked great. Sean

It is the right controller. YMMV as to the layout of the plug and configuration of the display and connector. You might have to tweak the contrast, twist the cable, or set a cable bridge to change the font size.� Time for experiments - but there will be some setting where it works. Did you verify the model of lcd was directly swappable with your lcd? t6963c doesn't make it directly compatiblethere could be some additional electronics you might have to add. Also if your internal battery is dead you would get blank text

Did it come with a presoldered ribbon cable? Because the problem could also be the cable orientation

Did you verify the model of lcd was directly swappable with your lcd? t6963c doesn't make it directly compatiblethere could be some additional electronics you might have to add. Also if your internal battery is dead you would get blank text
