Increment Dial Power Reset Problem

Increment Dial Power Reset Problem

2012-07-31 by mskellam84

Hello All,

New to the group and am currently troubleshooting an issue I'm having with my newly-acquired K5m.

Whenever I turn the increment dial in any direction, it seems to reset the power on the whole module. The screen goes blank and then the power is restored (back to initial startup screen.

The module is running update 1.2

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
-Matt

Sounds like a bad ic somewhere to me. If your electronic savvy, you could open her up and look for something blown. Or, get a service manual & track the problem with a multimeter. I had to do that with mine. Blown opamp from someone plugging a sound source into the hold jack. I got my schematic from manual manor but a little googling could fetch a free one. Other than that, take it in to a qualified repair tech. Good luck to you.

I have an increment dial problem too. When I turn it, the display number jumps around, or doesn't dhange at all. I replaced what I thought were the relevent ICs, but I guess I didn't do it properly. A very nice fellow sent me the relevant part of hthe schematic, but it is almost impossible to read. Locating one is not easy.

Sounds like the rotary encoder behind the data wheel has broken inside and is causing a short in the +5 volt line when you move it. These things have a life-span. Should be easy to find a replacement from Mouser or other electronic part source.

To get a Kawai service manual, one just has to email them. They emailed me a PDF that looks much nicer than the one uploaded here. I'll upload it once I get to a computer.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
