K5 and Leslie

2018-02-27 by brujerman@...

Hi,

I picked up a Leslie (brand) pedal for my K5 and after I installed a new LCD display for my K5, I brought the K5 to a gig this weekend.

I think the last time I brought the K5 to a gig was probably 25 years ago. The K5 organ sounds cut like a knife through the mix and the Leslie just took it over the top.

It was just an amazing combo with the K5 and the Leslie pedal.

Interesting. The K5 does have some great organ sounds. What sold me on it was many years ago I visited the home of a coworker who was also a musician. I couldn’t believe how realistic the acoustic instruments sounded compared to other synths and samplers. I was sold on the spot, luckily that was when the K5 was still new.

Mark, I am 100% agree with you .. despite the possibilities to make "odd" sounds, the K5 has very realistic sounds, i.e. organs and pianos, amazing ... I love my K5m; it's my oldest piece of gear.

Mark,

Although the K5 has all the harmonics of the B3 plus additional harmonics, I have created my own patches for the K5 based on the 9 harmonics of the B3. There is some detuning of individual harmonics in the B3 however.

Since the harmonics of the K5 are so clear, the interaction with the Leslie is truly marvelous, creating additional overtones that are truly magical.

Hammond bought out Leslie and they now have a new half moon clip-on product for a keyboard that will allow you to brake, slow or fast like a regular Leslie. The half moon switch I believe was made for the XK series of Hammond organ, but the Leslie pedal also has that TRS connection for the half moon controller as well. Very nice.
