LCD Backlight and Inverter

LCD Backlight and Inverter

2007-03-27 by antdes45

Hi everyone,

I've got other news: there are a few updates to work on about
reconditioning the K5, since our last discussion about this are as old
as 2004.

First, I just noticed that Night Launch (http://nightlaunch.com/)
doesn't exist anymore. Sadly, they were the only cheap LCD backlight
source we had. Fortunately, I think I found a replacement, which is
probably the exact thing Night Launch was selling. It's called
Flatlite, it's an EL light in a roll, and can be bought by the foot at
http://luminousfilm.com/ . At about $15/ft, it's probably the cheapest
option available, considering places like Telesis sell the K5
backlight for about $35. There seem to be quite a few colors available
as well.

Now, for those that also need a new inverter, there's one available
for about $10 from DigiKey. You can read more details about Jeffrey
Nelson's experience here :

That's all!
Antoine

Hey my Backlight and Inverter still work great! (but a few of my keys
are not so well, thank goodness for Midi.)

I recently got a K5000s - both these boards are very cool.

Hi Nelson, what about the brightness? I see Digikey has a similar
inverter that is more powerful.

If you have some time, you might want to open up the keyboard and clean
the key pads. I used rubbing alcohol lightly and it seems to make them
work well. I think that the only other suitable product to put in there
would be DeoxIT or FaderLube.

You've got a light, but both K5s I have got no backlight, dead
inverters, and ver 1.0 ROMs. One has most buttons working bad, and one
needs a little more tinkering with the keyboard pads to get all the keys
working.

Yes I got a dead key (a white key) working again on my K5 last month,
using the article on Klaus's site.
It stopped working altogether when I put it back the first time, but was
OK when I gave it a second go.
