The ROM is containing the software that the synth runs. ROM V1.3 has
fewer bugs than version 1.0 for example. To know what version you
have, it's telling it on the boot screen of the K5. Replacing it is
simply a matter of removing 4 screws, popping out a chip, placing the
new one in and putting back the screws.
