key not sounding on my K3 -- easy fix?

key not sounding on my K3 -- easy fix?

2007-01-16 by petershauger

Hi, I just picked up a K3 this weekend fairly cheap, and one of the
keys doesn't sound. Anyone here have this happen? Anyone here able to
fix it themselves, or is this something to send out for?

Hi there, I damaged an "F" key on my K3 and Kawai still have all parts
available for my model so I replaced the membrane and the pot in the effect
wheel. Incidentally it's worth checking the pad under the key hasn't fallen
off thereby not operating it before ordering any replacement key (they are
all incdentally modular and can be replaced individually. but you need to
note which key it is as when i ordered they actually all had individual part
numbers.

I'm surprised more folk don't use kawai around here (lots of retro synth
bands in nottingham uk) the customer support I found was great. although
admittedly it's a heavy beastie. but soo robust. And still holds a pretty
unique niche.

Thanks AndyBat, that's great news.

That's funny about the weight of it. That's actually partly why I
purchased this one. I figured, anything this heavy had to be
good...the old "they don't make em like they used to" theory.

A question about checking if the pad fell off--how do I check that
exactly? I see four screws on the top of the keyboard, can I just go
ahead and take the lid off, or am I gonna screw things up if I do?

You can take the four screws off there and look inside
at the computer stuff and also some fuse's and a
battery there.

You "might" need to do that to work on those keys, but
I dont know for sure as I havent worked with mine.

Also, thanks to the response about resetting a k3,
yeah, I have the k3 kind. So far I have replaced
fuses, blown a bunch of dust out of the computer area,
and tried to reset by holding down different sets of
"the lower three" keys.

Does anyone know exactly what keys specifically those
are? I have assumed that they are the two orange pad
keys and the pad adjacent to the left of those two.
Are those them? I keep trying that and I just get a
bunch of wierd wonky fart noizes on almost random
keys. Oddly enough, the wavepattern that does sound,
is sometimes not seemingly very cyclic, but sort of
distortion with some added rythm.

Any k3 techs in the ca area?
