K4r filter

K4r filter

2004-05-07 by moronattitude

Hi everyone,
I wonder if anyone has experienced the same problem with the
filter of K4r. In many patches, when the cutoff freq. is being
modulated by env or velocity, there is a loud pop on the beginning of
the sound... which can be rather annoying, since it is very audible
through entire mix and makes amplitude peaks. I usually prevent it by
delaying the sample a bit or setting the DCF env attack to some
higher value (even if I want e.g. a bass sound with sharper filter
attack).
Is it common?
                      Thanx for any info

Hi, Roman.

I too have experienced K4r's filter pop, and it's quite annoying.
The pop appears when the filter envelope reaches the top. It often
comes with fast decayed envelopes.

One solution is to set negative envelope depth, a minus value. Then
the maximum cutoff value never exceed the limit of 100, and the pop
noise doesn't appear.

If you experienced something about this pop problem - is there some
k4r that has no such problem, or is there other ways to avoid this -
please let us know.

Thanks,
Sealed
