What kind of adapter do I need for the K4? 12Watt, ???ma, center negative I almost have the info needed, but as you can see I need the current value. Thanks. -Aaron

Hi Aaron, The manual states that the K4 draws 5.8 watts using 12 volts so it should be 500ma. The K4r draws 6.8 watts so it should be 600ma. The plug appears to be the 2.5mm x 5.5mm style. A bit more current rating should be ok. The danger lies with going lower. Try to get a regulated supply if you can find one it will protect the synth a bit more. Thanks HTH, Narfman! I should've remembered my basic electronics course...

Wow Steve that's an amazing deal!!! However the power supply deal sounds worse than "Flirting With Disaster" by Molly Hatchet. There is a blocking diode in the K4r power section and that's probably doing the half wave thing but the power factor is way off. This can't be good for either module. The only thing I could find on the XD5 was the same DC IN 12V that's printed on my K4r is shown on page 5 of the PDF manual Kawai has on their site. The power consumption isn't listed on the spec page but it's the K4r's sister so it should be the same value. According to the manual this (the only?) Kawai Percussion Synthesizer has 256 waves and samples to play around with. 16 bit 44k technology for the samples and the waves are the same as the K4(r). These sound great in the K4 and I'm betting the XD5 can do the TB303, TR909 and all these popular sought after sounds. There's even a gated mode and 8 outputs. Neat! Tell us how it sounds when you get a chance.... Only one PSU though and it's a 12 volt AC 350ma or something like that (don't recall the current actually but it was smallish). the AC thing surprised me. They work fine with the 12v ac output adapter. does it really need ac though or is it ignoring half the waveform and only needs dc power? > > I need another psu for my second unit obviously which is why I ask. > > By the way, got a crazy deal on the gear. > > $280 canadian for: > K4R, X5D, Emu Orbit V2, behringer 16 channel level mixer (one rack space), behringer t1954 enhancer (I'm trying to sell that but we'll see, could be useful, looks cool anyway LoL), behringer tweakalizer, and m-audio x-session. > > Scary deal huh? Anyway, so I'm new to the K4R but it and the emu orbit v2 both impress me a lot. the orbit has portamento which I love for leads, and it has nice filters, the k4r has one wicked filter though.... fairly edgy analog sounding unit. > > Cheers > > > --------------------------------- > Be smarter than spam. I have an XD-5, i'm using a standard universal AC Adapter. 12v 1300mA. And it works fine. And about the 303/808/909 thing. No. The closest you'll get to any of those is the 808, and that's because it a few samples. Though they call them BOB. No 909 sounds, no 303 sounds. And you probably won't get close to synthesizing them either. -Larry narfman96 wrote:
