Last day of January !!  :)
Well, he made no mention of the display being bad , right !? 
Better hope there is 5 Volts developed within, cause its NOT just a simple Three-Terminal Regulator !!!
The internal power is a custom SWITCHER......supply that converts the raw input at the rear and regenerates a highly stable five volts...... I do not recommend any of you guys attempting repair of that......very tricky, I know I've repaired enough of those little beasties to forwarn you....!
