john.boys, I take it all back. I was misreading the code. Indeed, both the onboard sequencer clock and the MIDI time code operate with the same clocking rules.

As far as level of difficulty goes, the portamento code was really difficult. I am not inclined to do much more with it until I ve done many other features.
