memory battery issue again.....

memory battery issue again.....

2006-05-02 by devetron

Hey. I have my 800 mk1 cracked open to do the FM mod and am looking at
the space on the main PCB where the battery should be. I can just
solder a battery to the pads right there, right?? What confuses me is
that there is a page on the web (
http://analog.no/mods/korg_poly-800_mk-1_battery_backup.htm ) that
tells me to remove resistor R1 and diode D1. I don't want to do that
if I don't have to. I have searched the message history of this group
and found conflictory info there too.

Here is a pic of my circuit board with the battery space complete
with the solder pads:

Can it really be that straightforward?

Thanks, team 800!!

FM mod samples may be available soon. I'll run them by Atom 1st.

It is safe, I followed those instructions and worked flawlessly, and the
synth is still alive after a lot of months :) It's like having another
synth. Instead of cutting the legs I removed the soldering iron in one
of the legs and added heat-shrink tubing so I can revert it in case of
problems. But it is working without any issue :)
