Ok, I'm now scared.
I've had my MK-1 for a little less then a year now, and since day one I've
used a 1 amp 9v psu that I had been using with my CZ-1000. It still works
fine and I've abused it quite heavily.

Check your polarities... were they opposite on the keyboard and psu? And what
kind of amperage was the original psu supposed to have, as I never had one
in the first place...

New, and got a problem...

Hi,

I've got an old Poly 800 Mk 1 from which I bought about 10 years
ago. A long time ago I managed to connect it up to an Amiga via midi
which totally wiped out all the sounds. Eventually with the advent
of the internet I managed to get some sound banks downloaded and
transferred them to minidisc in order to attempt to reload the sounds.

Now, impatient as I am, I didn't bother to go and get a new correct
power supply, just thought I'd use what I had around the house. I
managed to find a 9V PSU from another keyboard. Didn't realise it
was giving out 1A current though. A black cloud of smoke issued from
my Poly 800.

I realise it's probably beyond repair, and I've been in touch with
another guy who has done the same thing and he reckons I'd need a new
board which you can no longer get hold of...

Anyway, my question, and it's a long shot: Does anyone know of a way
I can salvage this? I'd even just like to use it as a midi
controller, bypassing the sound generation part of it. Has anyone
out there got this sort of detailed knowledge to lend me a hand?

Thanks in advance for any advice, no matter how small :)

Rich

Ive got two dead polys which Ive been trying to fix for ages. Moral of the story, have a little patience or have a dead keyboard.

Ill let you know how mine go as Ive got to go back and see the tech whos looking at them now. They are fragile things though, which blow quite easily.

Wheres everyone elses opinions on this?

daMn, that sucks man

Dunno about using it as a MIDI controller, that'd be a good idea. depending
on how it's arranged you might be able to totally avert the DCO's and the
EG's, but if it's in the same IC, then I figure not.

Okay, before everyone panics, the Amperage of the PSU will /not/ fry
your keyboard. If it can't draw enough from the PSU, it will kill the
PSU, if the PSU is rated higher, it will just not be working as hard -
you can't force the current, it has to be drawn.

Incorrect polarity, dead shorts, and other faults such as the wrong
voltage will kill the voltage regulator (which is what I suspect has
failed). Using the correct polarity, correct voltage, and a current
rating equal to or greater than the requirements will be fine.

So do you think I could replace the voltage regulator in that case?

I may have got the polarity wrong, or the wrong voltage I guess :)

Cheers for all the replies.
