Hello,

I recently bought KORG POLY 800 and i would like to make sure that it works correctly. I found KORG POLY 800 service manual and there is a section called "check and adjustment procedure". In this section there are few parts which are hard to understand to me and I hope that You could explain few things for me, for example 1) On klm-596 scheme there is a chip called CN6A, is it the same as asked in first procedure of check and adjustment procedure CN6? 2) How to count pins on CN6A chip and determine which one is 6 or 7? 3) In fourth step of check and adjustment procedure there is mentioned KL-003 coil and it needs to be adjusted, however i can not find it on scheme. Maybe You know what the heck is KL-003?

Sveiks,

I don't think CN is chip, it is connector - which is also written in Check & Adjustment procedure point 1 in SM ("...KLM596 connector CN6 pin 6..."). Chips have a code IC.

Coil KL003 is in circuit 19, near IC17 - Q6 - four diodes (DB11, DB12) - C122 - R152 :-)

Thank you! Now i clearly see numbers of connector pins, thank you for correcting me, it is truly connector, my mistake. Thanks about showing where KL-003 is. Just to be sure - so CN6 in first step of check and adjustment procedure is the same as the CN6A at third step of check and adjustment procedure?

It seems to be so - cable has two ends, I suppose one is 6A, another 6B.

Few steps in adjustment procedure consists of measuring voltage while using original 9V, 300mA AC adapter, however when i bought the synth i got not original power supply - its 8.5V, 350 mA. Do you think that i could use that one for this procedure, or do i need to buy specificly 9V, 300mA AC adapter? If original adapter is needed, maybe you know some alternatives for it?

Any adapter which has the same output (volts, amperes), connector and  
polarity could work - inside the instrument there are regulators so I  
think they would deliver proper voltages to internal circuits.

Maybe yours will work too, when you will set proper voltage +5 Volt  
with VR1 in regulator circuit. -5 Volt rail seems to be allowing more  
tolerance - according to the point 1 it can be between -4.7 ~ -5.7  
Volt. Just try it. If voltages will be out of spec, you should try  
different adapter, more near to the original one.

You should buy the correct voltage 9V DC, 300mA adapter. If you adjust the voltages in the synth with 8.5V then if someone in the future was to use a correct 9V, it might cause the power supply or even other parts in the synth to fail.
Get a correct AC adapter - 9V DC 300mA.

Damn. Is there a way to find if previous owner adjusted the voltages in the synth with 8.5V? Just in case to be safe.. I found that near me there are two options of AC adapter - one is "Power supply non-stabilized 9V 300mA 2.1 / 5.5 {+}" and another is "Pulsed power supply 3-12V 0.3A, plug-in", changing polarity is not the problem for me. Which one do you think will suit it better? One adapter is pulsed and another is non-stabilized - i wonder what kind of properties do original Korg Poly 800 charger had.

you should have the full 9volts 

ive noodled with mine and as power decreases so does the response and tuning of synthesizer

For the Poly 800?  9V at something approaching 1A is more like the thing, and the exact voltage is unimportant since it hits the voltage regulator first.

Below about 8V you will run into reliability issues and above about 12V you'll start to overheat the big power tranny in the series pass regulator.

Bear in mind that even with the "correct" 9V adaptor it is not regulated and will provide anything from about 8.5V to about 11V depending on how close your incoming mains is to its nominal value.

No, you can't do that with a multimeter because it will read the RMS value instead of peak to peak.
Use your oscilloscope, set the sweep to somewhere from 50uS to 20mS. Then make sure the white noise level is 0.3V from lowest to highest (peak to peak).

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
