..... or, by extension, that all americans sit around the tv-set eating 
mcdonald's pseudo-burgers, drinking pisswater-beer & being completely 
ignorant of other 'cultures', eh?

a telling, 'funny' story:
some time ago, i was in a band w/jan garbarek (norwegian 
saxophonist/composer) for a coupla years;
jan *really* hated touring in the usa --- (we only did that twice).
we were in a *nice* hotel in chicago, once, and jan was trying to telephone 
his wife in oslo.
apparently, there was no way to dial directly from his room, so he was 
connected to an AT&T intermediary international operator.
he gave her the country sode & phone number, and she asked him exactly where 
he was calling;
he replied, 'oslo, norway'.
with no delay at all and clearly *not* disinegenuously, the operator 
proceeded to further query, 'is that oslo, norway, sweden, sir?'.
