        I also clung on to 9.0.4 for ages but I've taken the plunge to 9.2.2
and haven't noticed any down sides - yet! Did it in December so hopefully I
would have spotted any problems by now.
    Regarding your worries about going back, assuming that you have enough
hard drive space, follow the instructions for doing a clean install and you
will keep your old system and have a shiny new one with no added extensions.
You will either need to manually copy your necessary extensions from the old
system to the new one or re-install the 3rd party software (like Logic) so
that they put the necessary extensions in themselves. It's not as hard as it
sounds. I think all "Mac 
Experts" get that way by fiddling occasionally.
Macs aren't like PC's, they like humans!

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
