That's true in a digital context, but not when working with (older) 
hardware samplers.
Imagine an old hardware sampler. I love some of the old Emu's because of 
their filters, but I don't like their noise.
The louder the sample is, the less I have to boost the signal (which 
contains the sampler noise). So in that context, it's interesting.

Disclaimer: I'm only using EXS and DR008 anymore, so the above scenario 
belongs to the past. :-)
