Strange. For me, normalizing depends on the use of the recording.
If it's a simple sample which I'll use later on, then I normalize it.
If it's a recording, then I don't normalize it (I record at 24 bit)
because I want the levels of the recordings to be consistent.
And I also record as hot as possible... and I put an outboard compressor
with very high ratio at -3dB so I can turn up the gain safely without
clipping.

Nope. It's been announced a loooong time ago (3.0?), but was never
implemented afaik.

Hiya,

I rarely normalise mainly for the fact that if you double the volume you
double the noise too.
Better to use a quality mic pre and gate.

That's true in a digital context, but not when working with (older)
hardware samplers.
Imagine an old hardware sampler. I love some of the old Emu's because of
their filters, but I don't like their noise.
The louder the sample is, the less I have to boost the signal (which
contains the sampler noise). So in that context, it's interesting.

Disclaimer: I'm only using EXS and DR008 anymore, so the above scenario
belongs to the past. :-)
