When a PC is plugged in (but turned off) it still draws "standby" current --- this way when you turn it on, it doesn't transition from a totally `cold' state (ie high-resistance) This is why lightbulbs that are left on will last for years and years, but ones that are flipped on & off will burn out -- and usually, they burn out right when you flip the switch, because of the sudden change in electrical load. So, controlling your PC power at the outlet will create unnecessary electrical wear & tear. rijstafel
