The Alesis "standard" is 20 bit ...

This is true, the ADAT optical interface is capable of 24 bit ...

The Yamaha Adat - interfaces for the 02r, 03D mixers are only supporting
20 bit signal data!
(take to mind, that all the AD-convertors in these desks are also "only" 20
bit)

BUT:
If you do yourself a favour ( ;-) , get a TC UnitY card, with the optional
ADAT / TDIF interface!
These are damn cheap at the moment, and you will get two effect-processors,
AND
the ability to handle full 24 bit digital audio from and to these cards ADAT
interfaces !

Don´t forget to mention, that these cables isolate your computer from
your mixing desk, so no hum noises could occur this way ... ;-)

I´m working since about two years with a 02R, Unity card(s) and a RME Digi
9636.
No problems so far ...
