Even on dial-up this time is hardly worth comment. I don't think anyone is forced to do anything they don't want to in either case. On the main LUG I may read the first message in a thread - if the subject doesn't interest me I delete the entire thread. Its very easy to do. If a subject is repeated often enough, for example I am no longer interested in reading LAW posts - its trivial to create a filter that directs all those messages to the trash - that way you never see them. Guess my point is that is well within everyone's power to moderate themselves.
