Seriously, I don't think it is your responsibility to safeguard their recordings. There are a hundred different reasons for the material to get lost, backruptcy for one. It can only be the artists responsibility to make sure he has all the raw material for his recording. On-the-fly-backups are only important to avoid halt in the actual production progress.
