Re: [L-OT] If I upgrade from a 28k modem to 56k what speed increase is likely?

Hi Roman - in Auckland you'll be struggling to connect at 56k reliably
and hold the connection. Most of the time you'll find that about 44k
is the reliable limit, with occasional faster connects. Real-world?
Expect it to be maybe 50-70% faster on average. You won't notice a
huge difference.

If you're looking at a hardware purchase anyway, and if your budget
can stretch a little, I _really_ advise looking into the Jetstream
ADSL home option. From that, you can expect maybe 5x the download
speed of a 56k modem. It's always connected (no dialling), and you
don't tie up the phone line.

Alternately, the Woosh! wireless service is an interesting recent
arrival on the scene, at similar cost and speed to the Jetstream home
service.
