This is certainly not the only method, but for the way I work and the size of my setup I use MIDI remote to control Logic from the other room (specifically I use an old drum machine with each pad mapped to a particular function - play, record, stop, etc.), and I can't think that it would hurt to have a few hardwired MIDI connections out to the live room anyway - I know many keyboardists end up setting up their rigs in the control room but I'm sure many would love to set up with the rest of the band if there were an easy way to connect to Logic from there, and having at least a few MIDI connections would make that much easier.
