Re: [L-OT] G5 considerations and such

Hello everyone,
I used to be a regular on the LUG until Apple
bought Emagic. I decided to stay on the p.c. platform (mistake) and use
Cubase SX. Well, now I'm considering buying a Mac for more stability. I
never really feel the p.c. is "not" going to crash. It wil at some point
when you least expect it. I'm also looking to move back to Logic since now I
imagine it's really solid being specific to the Mac.
I do have a few questions, but I'll give you some
details about my studio first: I'm planning on doing most of my mixing
outside of Logic (via a Mackie 8 bus) so I'm mostly using Logic as a tape
deck with the exception of some effects and a few VST instruments. I'm using
a MOTU 24 i/o core system.
I was looking to buy the new G5 dual 1.8 gig with 1
gig of ram. I was also looking to buy a Glymph desktop firewire drive for my
audio. How do you suspect this system would work for me with Logic Pro? What
do I need to know about buying a Mac? Is it really set up right out of the
box? Can I run other programs on it (not while Logic is running) without it
screwing with my audio set-up (final cut for example)? I ask becasue right
now I have a audio only p.c. and it still has problems:-( I'm not looking to
use it for web, just a few other apps.
How does the MOTU stuff work with Logic and Mac?
Basically I want a system that functions. I know nothing is perfect, but I
want to be a little closer to peace and serenity:-))
I appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks!!
