The Logic Off Topic list

I don't know how off-topic my post is in an off-topic forum, but I 
finally received my cross grade of Logic 4.7 (used to be Windows, now 
it's Mac).  For whatever reason, I'm not getting my Insert effects to 
work properly in the Logic Mixer.  To simplify what I'm doing, I have 
a Roland XV-88 synth plugged directly into my Digi001, and my Digi001 
has the Mackie HR824 speakers plugged into the monitor outputs.  If I 
assign Bus effects in the Logic mixer they work great.  But if I 
assign effects on the channel Inserts I'm not hearing the effect.  I 
tried Platinum Verb and Distortion and neither one have any effect on 
the synth's sound.  Again, they work fine on the Logic Bus effects, 
so I know everything is physically connected properly.  Am I 
overlooking something silly?  Would be nice.  Any help is 
appreciated.. BTW, Mac is great!
