some of the best selling albums of all time sound like crap.


Who decides what sounds like crap.
You can measure headroom, floating points etc but you can't really say which 
sounds better than the other, it will always be your personal opinion. I 
recently saw an interview with John Cale who has I think had a point when he 
said that nothing gets better only different.
These days when you talk about sound quality you mostly refer to how loud 
the record sounds. In music terms that means to what extent you have been 
able to take out all dynamics and stay at an infinate peak.
Has anybody wondered why the Beatles are still one of the best selling bands 
in the world, now to the 3rd generation after their split-up. I looked it up 
and they we're bestselling in 97, 98, 00 and 01. I seriously doubt that they 
would have done better if they had been recorded in 32/192.
