Hi Mark; Most trance artists use what's called an analog sequencer/ step sequencer, there is a step environment for logic, but I never got it to work properly, even though the documentation claims its the best step sequencer in the world! I think it was called something like USD, check out swiftkick.com. Anyhow, Not many synth offer programmable pattern sequencers, I use the Korg MS2000 to program my own patterns "it has 3 Mod sequencers, each is 16 step that can record pitch modulation, length, filter, envelopes or anything the snyth can do, Korg triton has a good step sequencer also, unfortunately the roland has a plain vanila up/down arpaggiator but you can be creative with triggering multi-arrps with it, but its not what you need for programming. Also there is a german company who makes a hardware Midi step sequencer. You can also try using Rebirth, Reason for 303 style programming, but I personally find it not that easy and intuitive to get what you have in your head out! Also, there is somewhere on the net something called Trance tool Kit, it has files with Midi Modulations, LFO cut Offs and sweeps that are helpful to apply to basic synth sounds. Also, there is a Windows only step sequencer program "I am on Mac don't remember the name either!", The Roland MC groove boxes and the EMU racks "planet Dance...." have programmable pattern facility with the option to output as midi, so you can use other synth with your programmed patterns. But they are a bit limited when compared to the Korg because you can't modulate everything with the step sequencer. I am writing this really quickly because I just got the korg oasis and I want to play with it so bad! but if I did not confuse you more and you have a direction that you want to take then I am there to help. > What I need help with is demystifying the use of Arpeggiators. I know what > arpeggitators are (I own a Roland JP8000
