Yeah, strange, isn't it?
Once you take threads over to the L-OT they will most likely finish pretty
soon.
I'd actually be interested in people's techniques on this.

Btw, downloaded your Rocket thing today, pretty groovy stuff, I like it a
lot, you seem to know what you're doing! Pretty much stuff being added yet
though so I dunno what else to do with it, maybe I'm gonna record a straight
rhythm git tomorrow morning, fwiw.

Regards,
Sascha

yea me too, I've learn some stuff that I didn't think of though, like
using an arpeggiator... and other stuff. I've been in this business
for 30 years, and I love learning new stuff still, and there's so much
to learn these days..

Yea, when I got up this morning folks had laid some really kewl
stuff on there. I was knocked out. I like Rocket. I do wish it was
just a bit cheaper for private space. Someone mentioned they wished
the technology could be used on our own servers, or our own webhost
servers, THAT would be great. But i like it right now. $10.95 isn't
that bad.

If you needed to get talent from all overthe world to perform on
projects that are for paying jobs, it's a whole lot cheaper than
flying them in, or even sending the tapes to them, and renting a local
studio for them to do their OD's.

Can't wait to hear what you've got in mind for that tune.

Speaking about arpeggiators I found a very cool one for the Logic environment the other day. It's called IGA (Instant Gratification Arpeggiator) and put together by Len Sasso. With this environment you can have a synth/EXS play arpeggios with the rhythmic phrasing of a certain "guide track" that you can specify in the settings. Think about using the phrasing and velocities of a hi hat track to generate arpeggio over the songs harmonies.

The IGA is such a funny toy!

Ok so I totally missed this thread. ARGH! I really enjoy Trance music and wondered if you guys to tell me what I should search for in the archives. Am I searching the logic-users list? I'm on there too.

What I need help with is demystifying the use of Arpeggiators. I know what arpeggitators are (I own a Roland JP8000 with tons of patterns and room for making my own), but I think Trance artists aren't using built in Arpegiators. I know there is a feature in the Logic Environment called "Arpeggiators" - is that for making your own? Or do people use a different technique?

Sorry for dropping the poop after the part (aka discussion) started so long ago. Work had me mucho busy. :-(

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark;

Most trance artists use what's called an analog sequencer/ step sequencer,
there is a step environment for logic, but I never got it to work properly,
even though the documentation claims its the best step sequencer in the
world! I think it was called something like USD, check out swiftkick.com.
Anyhow, Not many synth offer programmable pattern sequencers, I use the Korg
MS2000 to program my own patterns "it has 3 Mod sequencers, each is 16 step
that can record pitch modulation, length, filter, envelopes or anything the
snyth can do, Korg triton has a good step sequencer also, unfortunately the
roland has a plain vanila up/down arpaggiator but you can be creative with
triggering multi-arrps with it, but its not what you need for programming.
Also there is a german company who makes a hardware Midi step sequencer. You
can also try using Rebirth, Reason for 303 style programming, but I
personally find it not that easy and intuitive to get what you have in your
head out! Also, there is somewhere on the net something called Trance tool
Kit, it has files with Midi Modulations, LFO cut Offs and sweeps that are
helpful to apply to basic synth sounds. Also, there is a Windows only step
sequencer program "I am on Mac don't remember the name either!", The Roland
MC groove boxes and the EMU racks "planet Dance...." have programmable
pattern facility with the option to output as midi, so you can use other
synth with your programmed patterns. But they are a bit limited when
compared to the Korg because you can't modulate everything with the step
sequencer. I am writing this really quickly because I just got the korg
oasis and I want to play with it so bad! but if I did not confuse you more
and you have a direction that you want to take then I am there to help.

Hey Mark,

That thread is on the LUG... starts at #67752. I was interested in
the some techniques I could use in Logic to get some of these
effects, and it moved quickly into a bunch of opinions, that is
appropriate on the OT. Apparently theres still lots of discussion left
on that subject, but it wasn't Logic related anymore.

Hello,

I feel like I might biting on a joke here, but I'll take the chance.
Is there really an "IGA" from Len? If so, can I get it somewhere, and
play around with it? I need some instant gratification. :o)

Just enter "trance" in the search form and you'll get all results, most recent first.

Good ones don't indeed. Most in Belgium do. :-))) LOL
See my previous way of how I often do it.

> I know there is a feature in the Logic Environment called "Arpeggiators" - is that for making your own?

No, it has some silly arp types. I never use that arp. Check out Len Sasso's environments though, as he has some extra stuff. I don't use it though.

Bye,
