PB G3 2000-Slow Firewireports???

PB G3 2000-Slow Firewireports???

2001-08-21 by jakobo@algonet.se

Hi!

I've tried 2 Firewire-disks with my Powerbook G3 2000.

First:
-LaCie 40GB 7200rpm

and now:

-Tech Solutions 40GB 7200rpm which is approved by a Swedish
musicgearcompany called Luthman Scandinavia.
This disk I belive has the Oxford 911 chip and is supposed to
manage to record 64 audiotracks 24bit 44'1kHz.

Even though this is a high performance disk I cant get more than
approx. 12MB/sec sustained transfer!

I heard that the PB G3 2000 uses an earlier rev. of the Core99's
embedded firewire controller.
Can this be the reason to the pore performance?

My setup is:
PB G3 2000
MacOs 9.1
VX pocket Soundcard(Digigram)
LogicPlatinum 4.7.2
DiskControl 1.1

Thankful for replies!

Regards

Jakob

What is the sustained transfer spec on the disks, according to the
manufacturere? 12MB/s sounds about right for a high performance 7200RPM
drive.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
