indeed, I thought I had posted '...politically and individually a loud
minority of Americans have a strident voice etc....' my apologies, and
thanks for pointing it out. I was trying to make the point that it is often
the case that intelligent reasoning human beings are tarred with the same
brush as their uncouth counterparts - I'm sure all can draw the comparison I
was making in the subtext of such a statement.... ; )

as ever, peace

Have YOU ever thought about your soul - can it be saved?
Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave
Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you?
Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?

When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you keep your cool?
Would you like to see the Pope on the end of a rope - do you think he's a fool?
Well I have seen the truth, yes I've seen the light and I've changed my ways
And I'll be prepared when you're lonely and scared at the end of our days

Could it be you're afraid of what your friends might say
If they knew you believe in God above?
They should realize before they criticize
that God is the only way to love

Is your mind so small that you have to fall
In with the pack wherever they run
Will you still sneer when death is near
And say they may as well worship the sun?

I think it was true it was people like you that crucified Christ
I think it is sad the opinion you had was the only one voiced
Will you be so sure when your day is near, say you don't believe?
You had the chance but you turned it down, now you can't retrieve

Perhaps you'll think before you say that God is dead and gone
Open your eyes, just realize that he's the one
The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate
Or will you still jeer at all you hear? Yes! I think it's too late.

How charming, the lyrics to a Black Sabbath song from the early 70's.

Well, the only controversial topics we have not discussed yet are
abortion and religion, so why not get into some nasty arguments over
these things as well?

> Have YOU ever thought about your soul - can it be saved?

yes, I don't think it needs to be saved because it fine how it is.

> Or perhaps you think that when you're dead you just stay in your grave

I don't plan on going anywhere at that point, actualy.

> Is God just a thought within your head or is he a part of you?

God and religion are two different things. If there is a god inside of
each person, then we don't need priests, rabbi's and clerics to translate
for god do we?

> Is Christ just a name that you read in a book when you were in school?

Not in school, but in Sunday School, before I realized it was mythology.

> When you think about death do you lose your breath or do you keep your
>cool?

Pretty much keep my cool. We can't really expect immortality can we?
(Please see the Bowie song Supermen for more on that topic.)

> Would you like to see the Pope on the end of a rope - do you think he's
>a fool?

I respect him a lot as a man of peace. I don't believe his stuff about
not using birth control, not doing stem cell research, and believing in
him and the catholic church. But he is a great guy in general and
positive influence in the world.

> Well I have seen the truth, yes I've seen the light and I've changed my
>ways

Good for you.

> And I'll be prepared when you're lonely and scared at the end of our days

Sounds like you're lonely and scared and thats why you need mythology as
a crutch to keep what little remains of sanity.

> Could it be you're afraid of what your friends might say

Well that too, yeah. I don't want to be perceived as a nut. But I guess
it doesn't bother some people.

> If they knew you believe in God above?
> They should realize before they criticize
> that God is the only way to love

I have no argument with that, but I do argue with the implication that
organized religion is the only way to love. In fact, religion is
indoctrination and brainwashing in certain ways. Look at these religious
fellows who drove planes into office buildings.

> Is your mind so small that you have to fall
> In with the pack wherever they run

Small or not, I decide for myself. I think the people who can;t think for
themselves, and need to have others tell them what to think and feel are
the ones with small minds.

> Will you still sneer when death is near
> And say they may as well worship the sun?

Why is it that all primitive people feel the need to worship things?

> I think it was true it was people like you that crucified Christ

A bit of a heavy accusation here isn't it?

> I think it is sad the opinion you had was the only one voiced

There is no shortage of pro-religion comments made from tv evangelists,
the president of the united states and his attorney general, and others
like Jerry Falwell who blamed the recent tragedy on the sins of gays, and
pro-choice people.

> Will you be so sure when your day is near, say you don't believe?
> You had the chance but you turned it down, now you can't retrieve
>

> Open your eyes, just realize that he's the one

Who allowed this terrible tragedy to occur?

> The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate

Religion causes all this sin and death a few weeks ago.

> Or will you still jeer at all you hear? Yes! I think it's too late.

is that by Tony Iommi and Ozzy Osbourne? who are the song writers? Of
course, the same Ozzy Osbourne who sung these words also bit the head off
a dove to prove a point in a record negotiation. I heard they used to
wear crosses because they were afraid that some black witches would put
curses on them while they were on stage. Great role models. Thanks for
sharing with us.

What's next after Black Sabbath? Guns N Roses or Metallica?
