BeOS Support (Slight Return)
2000-04-15 by Adrian Gill
Got this back from Be today after I mailed them last week. After the querying of Be's support stance, I had to make sure... _______________________________ Hello, Thank you for contacting Be Technical Support. Actually, Gobe is in charge of packaging, selling, and supporting the R5 Pro Edition.. Well, at least in the Americas. Basically, the BeOS is being OEM'd out to the companies currently selected for doing this. We truly do not see support waning at all, but Emagic's decision is their own.. I wish you luck in your efforts to get them back on track. Please remember to visit our online help area at: <http://www.be.com/support/index.html> to help you find instant answers to your questions. We update this area regularly with frequently asked questions and lots of interesting information. Thank You, Jonathan Tarbox Be Technical Support ______________________________ So there you have it. It could have been beautiful... One thing might have come out of all this, however - if only for Mac users. For anyone who didn't see this a week ago at http://www.lebuzz.com - _____________________________ " April 11 Apple, which has tended to focus its attention on optimizing for video in the past, appears to be gaining some ground on Be in the area of latency (delay), an area where Be presently holds a significant edge over most other platforms. A BeOS developer, who comments anonymously, says developers of the MacOSX audio subsystem have managed to get some "incredible latency" numbers, suppressing the biggest advantage BeOS had over Windows and MacOS. The developer reports Apple has hired "some brilliant people" to design their audio architecture. He says Apple is now advocating more heavily in the direction of audio product developers. OUR TAKE: Could this have been a factor in Be's decision to shift their focus to Internet appliances? Could Apple influence have had any bearing on the decisions of Emagic and Steinberg to shelve their BeOS projects? " ____________________________ One day I'll be getting an mLAN'ed, multi-proccesing, turbo-nutter-bastard Mac then (...why did I never worry about operating systems in my Atari/Amiga days?) Ade
