check you have the hard drive set as master on the first IDE bus (usually
marked as IDE0 )

make the BIOS automatically detect the drives

make sure the memory is seated properly and shows up in the BIOS, also that
the timing for the memory is set correctly

good luck

Subject: [L-OT] Computer Build Problem

> Hello!! I recently upgraded my p.c. for a better recording system. I
decided to take the parts from my old p.c. and build an internet p.c. When I
constructed my p.c. (this is the first time I have done this) I get this
error when I try to boot up the p.c. "System Hardware Abnormal Press Any Key
To Continue". Does anybody know what this means? This happens as soon as I
turn the p.c. on, before Windows loads. If I press any key to continue, I
get a blue screen saying that it stopped Windows from loading to prevent
damage....

rom, floppy drive for it. A friend also gave me a 9 gig Western Digital 5200
Cavair drive. As far as I know I have everything hooked up correctly and I
don't know where to start. Can anyone offer me any advice? Thnaks!!

I checked and I do have the hard drive as master on the first IDE bus.

Do you mean set them to Auto in the Bios? If so I did this.

How do I know about the memory showing up in the Bios? When I boot up I see it doing the memory test. How do I check the timing of the memory?

The place that did the upgrades on my old computer just took the old motherboard out with the memory and processer still on it. So I just installed it like it was. Seemed pretty cut and dry, Although I was a little confused about the wiring for the case. If I mixed up the negative and minus, it wouldn't cause the system hardware abnormal error would it? I appreciate all the help. I tried calling MSI but that was a complete disappointment as getting them on the phone is impossible!! Thanks!!

Your memory should show up on the same menu page of the BIOS where you
adjust your drive settings.

If you hunt around in the BIOS you should find some references to memory
timing and ECC error checking etc. Try setting all these to the most
cobservative setting you can and see if the system boots then. You can then
ratchet down the settings until the system gives up at which point you can
go backa step safe in the knowledge that you (should) have a stable
system....

maybe the connectors to the keyboard mouse etc. board are not made properly
(very long shot...) ??

I've forgotten what the original problem was though :(

good luck
